Tout art est un exil

“It’s true that I will go on being Iranian and Jewish, whether I live here or there. But I’ve also always continued to think that my work belonged to the imaginary and utopian world of man born into the world, and that if exile does exist somewhere, it’s not because of a residence permit or a passport, but through absence of this world, which will never exist and to which the artist nevertheless aspires and belongs, more than Leonardo da Vinci belongs to Italy”

Chohreh Feyzdjou

This monograph of the artist Chohreh Feyzdjou (1955-1996), the first to be devoted to the whole of her oeuvre, is being published to mark the occasion of the exhibition “Chohreh Feyzdjou. All art is in exile”, on view at the CAPC musée d’art contemporain, Bordeaux, from 8 February to 2 September 2007.

The Centre national des arts plastiques wishes, through this publication, to pay tribute to this Iranian artist who had an untimely death and whose entire collection from her studio, acquired by the State in 2002, is henceforth listed on the inventories of the National Contemporary Art Collection (FNAC). Since 2004, this collection has been on loan to the CAPC musée d’art contemporain in Bordeaux.
